Purnomo’s educational journey began at TK Wijaya Kusuma from 1985 to 1987, followed by primary education at SD Nusa Indah until 1993. He continued his studies at SMPN 6 Surabaya (1993-1996) and then at SMAN 9 Surabaya, graduating in 1999. Purnomo pursued higher education in law, earning his Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Brawijaya, Malang in 2005, and later a Master’s degree in Law from Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta in 2012.

Throughout his career, Purnomo has continually sought to enhance his expertise through various professional training programs. Notable among these are the ToT (Training of Trainers) on Public Budget Analysis by Malang Corruption Watch in 2004, and specialized training for legal professions, including the Advocacy Profession Education in 2005 and Media Perspective Advocacy Training by the Legal Aid Institute for the Press in 2007. Prior to this, he was the Head of the Legal Division at the KPU (General Elections Commission) in Surabaya from June 2014 to July 2018. His earlier roles included assisting the Legal and Violations Division at Bawaslu South Sumatra Province and conducting research at the National Law Reform Consortium (KRHN).
His extensive experience also includes operational management at the Committee for Solidarity for Munir (KASUM) and program associations with the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM ASIA). He has contributed to legal research and advocacy for judicial independence with the Institute for Judicial Independence Advocacy (LeIP) and served as an assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Widya Gama University, Malang.
